1. Introduction: The Billionaire Action Lab Network at MIT & the problem of poverty

March 26, 2015

As many people are aware, MIT has the excellent Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), headed by economists Esther Duflo and Abhijit Bannerjee, among others (http://www.povertyactionlab.org/).  As they say on their About page, they have become "a global network of researchers who use randomized evaluations to answer critical policy questions in the fight against poverty."  I love these guys, but I worry they have a blind spot.

How can we solve the problem of poverty if we don't also tackle the problem of the superrich?

That's why we created the Billionaire Action Lab Network at MIT.  We are a team of researchers who use ethnography to answer critical questions about the rapidly growing concentration of wealth at the top.
